Low-Pressure Sales for Real Estate Agents: What Ed Stulak Learned From Getting Fired by Text

2 min read

Ed Stulak got fired by a client over text at 8pm, after eighteen months of working together. He read it, set his phone down, and went back to hanging out with his family in a snowstorm. On this episode of The Algorithm Ate My Homework, Ed explains why that reaction is the result of a low-pressure sales approach that converts better, posts that look like his real life, and a circle of people who move him forward.

The power of relationships

Asked what the version of him from a year ago didn't understand about success, Ed started with people. Relationships that push you forward matter more than a wide circle.

You don't have to be friends with everyone under the sun. You have to be friends with the right people.

The people you know matter less than the relationships you nurture toward mutual growth. Ed spent the year letting the wrong ones fade and bringing the right ones closer, and says it changed his personal life and his business at the same time.

Selling without selling

The less Ed pressures, the more conversions he sees.

The less I sell, the more I sell.

He opens a listing appointment by checking whether he can even help, and tells sellers he's fine if it doesn't fit. No notepad, no pitch, no documents on the table. Because nobody feels sold to, clients share what's actually going on: the real timeline, the real fear, the real reason they called. The conversation gets easier and the deal follows.

Authenticity in content creation

Days before we recorded, Ed filmed a video at his parents' house with a chicken on his head in the snow. Unplanned, unpolished, posted anyway. Followers told him it was the first time they'd seen him out of the suit, and it brought people closer than any luxury listing post.

When I post once, I'm hitting a bunch of different people all at the same time.

Real moments start real conversations. Polished, AI-generated content gets likes and saves. It rarely gets a DM. Ed uses AI every day for staging, editing, and thinking through deals. He won't post an AI video of himself doing something he'd never do in real life.

Shift your mindset

Ed's year comes down to one move: he stopped needing every sale and started valuing the right connections. Less stress, better-fit clients, and a business that looks like him.
